Life coaching
Life is about many different elements, from career to family life; leisure to romance; successes to challenging times. To paraphrase Shakespeare, we play many parts in our lifetime and can sometimes find it hard to work out what we actually want to do and how to achieve it while maintaining a health work-life balance. Life coaching can provide you with a fresh perspective and clarity on how to achieve a greater sense of fulfilment.
It works by identifying the obstacles in your path and devising ways to overcome them.
A life coach acts as a sounding board and guide, advising and suggesting, rather than telling you what to do. They help you identify your strengths and provide support to help you make meaningful changes for the better.
While many people turn to a life coach when facing significant life stages, such as a new career, relationship or relocation, the process can help anyone seeking to make their existence happier and more meaningful. Signs that you could gain from having the support of a life coach include frequently feeling irritable, anxious or stressed, falling into bad habits or addictions, feeling dissatisfied with your relationships or social life, struggling to access creativity, no longer being able to access your previous coping mechanisms and experiencing physical symptoms such as lack of sleep, low energy or loss of appetite.
Life coaching is not intended to ‘treat’ mental health conditions or anxiety disorders.
Rather, it encourages you to look specifically at what is troubling you about your life and devise strategies to make lasting changes. It can help you cope with whatever you are facing with renewed strength and motivation.
Techniques include identifying stumbling blocks, naming aspirations and goals, boosting self-confidence and improving ‘life skills’ like time management, communication techniques, assertiveness and personal organisation.
Life coaching is all about helping you lead a happy, fulfilled life. External, non-judgemental input and advice from a trained, compassionate life coach can make all the difference when you are at an impasse and need help navigating your way through. Life coaching can help anyone at any stage in life.
